Hundreds of young and old gathered on Sunday near the parliament, in Bardo and in several country regions, demanding the departure of the government and the dissolution of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (ARP).
The police were present in large numbers, preventing the demonstrators from advancing in the direction of Bardo Square, which increases the tension between security and protesters. The latter tried to cross the security barriers put in place.
Skirmishes broke out and stones and water bottles were thrown at the police.
Young people intervened to reframe the movement during which reporters, photographers and security agents were slightly injured, noted the correspondent of the TAP agency who was present at the scene.
Slogans counting the political support of the government (Ennahdha, Qalb Tounès and Itilef Al Karama) were chanted by the demonstrators who denounced the mismanagement of the health crisis and the deterioration of the economic and social situation in the country. They called for the dissolution of parliament.
The demonstrators insisted on the peaceful and spontaneous nature of this action, saying that no party is standing behind the protests.
Opposition political parties like the Workers’ Party, had stated in separate statements that they did not support this protest movement to which “suspicious parties” allegedly called on who acted with a covered face.
The demonstrations, observed on this day of celebration of the feast of the Republic in the capital and several regions were organized by “the Superior Council of Youth”, an association not included in the list of organizations and associations active in Tunisia.
These movements are taking place in a delicate health context marked by the increase, since last June, in the number of contaminations by the coronavirus
